Transmitters amplify signals before the radiator converts them into fields. A receiver preamplifier model applies gain to the incoming signal after collection and also adds receiver noise to the incoming signal. Examples illustrate coherent-on-transmit and coherent-on-receive radar systems.

The transmitter models transmit power, transmit gain, and system loss.
The preamplifier models receiver gain and noise.
This section introduces the concept of baseband signals and defines the local and global coordinate systems used in the toolbox.
